Musselburgh Links

Though there is much debate and 100 percent certainty would be difficult to attain, the Old Golf Course at Musselburgh Links is considered by many to be history’s oldest golf course. The earliest documentation of golf being playing on Musselburgh Links is from 1672, although history suggests that Mary, Queen of Scots played on the Musselburgh Links over a hundred years earlier. Musselburgh was also the host of six Open Championships during the rotation of the 1870’s and 80’s (first in 1874 and the last in 1889); one of three courses, alongside Prestwick and the Old Course at St Andrews, which staged the event during this time period. It was selected because of its popularity with the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers.
