Obama & Woods Meet at the Floridian National Golf Club

Rivkin Golf Woods & ObamaIn golf news, United States President Obama played a round today with a foursome that included Tiger Woods, Ron Kirk (a U.S. trade representative) and Jim Crane (a Democratic donor who owns the Houston Astros as well as the golf club at which the four played). The round concluded the President’s trip to Florida this weekend and the four played the Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City.

Riviera Country Club

The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California is located in a community within the city limits of Los Angeles. The course itself is actually located in the Santa Monica Canyon, just below the Santa Monica Mountains and within walking distance of Sunset Boulevard. Noted for its magnificent beauty and challenging design, the par 71, 7,279 yard Riviera Country Club golf course is recognized as one of the finest on the PGA Tour. Pebble Beach

With the upcoming Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament February 7-10, Mark Rivkin decided to take an in-depth look at one of the best places in the world for golf: Pebble Beach, California. There are actually eight golf courses located in the Pebble Beach area, though the most recognizable of which is Pebble Beach Golf Links, where top professionals gather for some of the sport’s finest competition.

For nearly a hundred years golfers have enjoyed this spectacular ocean side course and it’s often referred to as the greatest public golf course in America. In addition to hosting the annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament, the course has also been the stage for five U.S. Opens. Jack Nicklaus is even quoted as saying “If I had only one more round to play, I would choose to play it at Pebble Beach…It’s possibly the best in the world.”

TPC Scottsdale

With this year’s PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open taking place in Scottsdale this weekend, the Rivkin Golf Review wanted to take a closer look at one of golf’s most prominent and difficult courses that is the stage for the latest PGA Tour event. TPC Scottsdale is a true work of art as it combines challenging terrain with skillful playability that’s appealing to both professionals as well as recreational golfers. It’s situated in the Sonoran Desert and surrounded by the McDowell Mountains that create a spectacular backdrop for the course. The 36-hole golf complex in Scottsdale, Arizona has two championship courses (the Stadium Course and the Champions Course), both of which are open to the public, and it’s the state’s only PGA Tour facility.

Magna Golf Club

Mark Rivkin Golf aims to keep golfers informed on the latest golf insight, and this includes the best clubs and courses to play in North America. Today we wanted to focus on one of Canada’s finest, the Magna Golf Club, where Mr. Rivkin is actually a member.

The Magna Golf Club is located just north of Mark Rivkin’s hometown of Toronto at 14780 Leslie Street in Aurora, Ontario, and features a luxury clubhouse, an award-winning golf course and superior customer service. The club is directed by general manager and golf pro Rob Roxborough, and the warm atmosphere is appealing to both avid golfers and non-golfers. There are currently around 250 golfing members and a new social membership category is available for the non-golfing food and wine lovers. The golf club hosts social events and wine tastings throughout the year, and guests love the hospitality that is shown at the Magna Golf Club. The clubhouse features European-style decor with classic lines and a comfortable dining room with menus by award-winning chef, Jason D’Anna.

Musselburgh Links

Though there is much debate and 100 percent certainty would be difficult to attain, the Old Golf Course at Musselburgh Links is considered by many to be history’s oldest golf course. The earliest documentation of golf being playing on Musselburgh Links is from 1672, although history suggests that Mary, Queen of Scots played on the Musselburgh Links over a hundred years earlier. Musselburgh was also the host of six Open Championships during the rotation of the 1870’s and 80’s (first in 1874 and the last in 1889); one of three courses, alongside Prestwick and the Old Course at St Andrews, which staged the event during this time period. It was selected because of its popularity with the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers.

The Canadian Golf & Country Club is actually located in Ashton, Ontario, just about thirty minutes west of Ottawa, and it was opened in 1976 as a nine hole course. The semi-private course now features twenty seven championship holes resting on a beautiful plot of land with many large ponds and elegant forests; which also make for exciting hazards! Read More …
